Free Pikachu Crochet Tutorial and Pattern.

Sorry for my 2 weeks long disappear, I was preparing for moving to Edinburgh for my Master course. I was so busy that I confusedly delete some scene in this Pikachu Tutorial. But lucky me that the delete part is sewing scene not the crochet part.

Even thought the open semester is coming, but I will keep the channel going on with at lease 2 videos per month. :)

Let's move the topic back to our doll today, it's Pikachu! I think most people have heard of the name Pikachu, even though they are not watching its anime or playing the game.

I really love how this pikachu turn out, but there's a lot of people around me said they prefer the pikachu that have rounder face, like more to the chibi version(like Charmander pattern) more. But I want him to be more resemble to actual character, so I made this. While I was crochet him, I never expect him to be this cute! I hope you guys like it too.

Sewing arms and feet can be annoying job for many people, and if you are not familiar with sewing you doll may not turn out as you want. Tip is to make sure that they are symmetry for both arms and legs

Rnd9 - Rnd12: 1 ch, sc in next 3 stitch, turn
Fasten off.

Optional, if you feel like the tail is too thin, and want it to be more thick, you can crochet another same pattern piece. Then sewing them together to add the thickness.

Cheek Start with Red
Rnd1: 2 ch, 6 sc in the 1st chain, sl :: 6 stitches
Fasten off.

Optional for cheek, if you have red felt sheet, you can cut it into circular shape and use it as a cheek part instead of crochet them.

After finished crochet every parts, the most important assemble is the face! Eventough you mass up on sewing arms and legs, or your hand tension was not equal during crochet process. The most important things is you have to make sure the face of the doll is cute! Using pins to guide where you are going to stitch or embroidery first hand before doing the real job. And if you are running out of idea how to make his face, just simple smile with symmetrical face components is enough. The key here is symmetry.

Cannot find safety eye!!
Alternative way for making eye, you can either do embroidery, or crochet them. Or if you have felt sheet, cut it into circle and sewing or glue them to make eyes.

Hope you enjoy the pattern, any problems during making him, comment below or under tutorial video. I will try answer you as fast as I can. :)

Embroidery mouth in to the shape that you want.

To be honest I don't like his finished face, I prefer pikachu with mouth close. But my brother, he said he want pikachu to smile mouth open wide. So I end up made what he requested.

Additionally, if you love Pikachu I have a paid pattern available on my pattern store, both craftsy and etsy. For anyone who want a huge pikachu to cuddle. :)

Pikachu again after 3 years.

After I publish my Pikachu pattern on :

There are many people question me about the pattern and I try my best to answer them here:

Finally after I had crochet that Pikachu 3 years ago, I have a chance to re-crochet him again.
I am not exactly follow the pattern because this Pikachu is a little smaller than the one I did in the past.

The left one was crochet follow my pattern which I still don't have time to finish him, and right one is this the head of Pikachu below, you can see the different in size.

I am very proud of this Pikachu, even tough he smaller than pattern original one but this still is a big size amigurumi doll. I don't have much chance to make a big one like this due to my present work and many factors. I have to thank to my customer from from Canada that he made this decision to order me to made this Pikachu for him. What a nice experience.

Pikachu pattern, additional tips and tricks.

This post is about additional tips and tricks for my Pikachu pattern.

There're many people asked me through various way about this Pikachu pattern, and most of them came with similar question about 'why it not turn out the same as your photo'

So I think I will try to explain all details and tricks to crochet this Pikachu, so it can turn out as same as mine as possible.

YARN : For this pikachu I used 4 ply acrylic yarn bran 'VENUS' which I think it is Thai local brand. Each ball weight around 90-100 grams(I not sure about the certain number), and I used nearly 4 balls.

"Red Heart Super Saver Solids"
Some of my customers use yarn called 'Red Heart Super Saver Solids' to crochet this Pickachu. They use approximately 6 skeins and the finished size is ginormous. It's 1.6- 1.7 meters.

Tips & Trick:  I crochet this Pikachu quite 'tight', if you feel that you're crocheting him much less tight than mine, change the hook to smaller one. If you don't want to change you can continue working but he may not get the same shape as this one. How tight it is? Tight enough that you can not see clearly hole between each stitch.

EARS TOO SMALL!?
Many people ask me about the ears are way too small to head size, did I mistakenly write the pattern? I have to say I crochet the same as in the pattern. I stuff the fiber into the ears quite tight, because I also had feeling that the ears are a little too small for the head.

Still too small!?
If you still have a feeling that the ears are too small, I suggest you to change the pattern in round 8 into:

Rnd 8: 3 ch, dc in next 6 stitch, 2 dc in next stitch 2 times, sl

I think this would be enough for the ears, but if you still need the bigger ears also working on increase in round 9 too.

FACE COMPONENTS

EYES : After finish the eyes part, eyes should have diameter about tree rows of stitch (see the picture below). Sometime different yarn and different hook affect much on the finished work, so if you feel that eye are too small feel free to increase the size of them.

Two eyes are about 15 stitches apart, 1 row to nose, and one row to mouth.

You can freely arrange the components of his face to fit your pikachu's head, my instruction is for guiding.

Sewing parts together,
use one or two strand of yarn?
I use 2 strands together, because when I try 1 strand, the sewing edges are clearly visible.

I think that all, if any other question coming, I will get update on this page. Thank you so much for everyone who bought my Pikachu pattern, feel free to ask my anything about the pattern. I will be your assistance until you finish him.
